OGDCL managing director appoints consultant sans approval of the board
 Muzaffar Hameed June 18, 2010, 09:18:12 AM

ISLAMABAD : The Managing Director of Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) management has appointed IT and security consultant at hefty package without seeking approval from the Board of Directors (BoD), Business Recorder has learnt reliably. OGDCL management has decided to seek ex-post-facto approval from BoD scheduled to meet on June 24 despite the fact that Human Resource Committee (HRC) of OGDCL has already raised serious concern over the ex post facto approvals of officials.

According to documents available with Business Recorder, HRC snubbed the OGDCL management which tried to seek ex post facto approval on deputation of Asif Ali PS to the Minister in a meeting held on March 17. Sources revealed to the Business Recorder that Aamir Jaafry, reportedly a close friend of MD OGDCL, has joined as the IT and security consultant.

"It is surprising that OGDCL management is still to issue his appointment letter but he has joined the company," sources said adding that he has been appointed at hefty package of Rs 0.3 million per month. Furthermore, OGDCL was required to advertise in the newspapers seeking applications for the post.

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has already initiated an inquiry to probe allegations levelled by Member National Assembly (MNA) Meer Munawar Ali Talpur, brother in law of President Asif Ali Zardari, and some parliamentarians from Pakistan Muslim League (N) over appointments in different oil fields located in Sindh.

Talpur approached the Prime Minister alleging that top guns of Petroleum Ministry and OGDCL have issued call letters to 400 candidates who belonged to two districts-Tando Muhammad Khan and Haiderabad. Talpur alleged that these districts belong to the constituency of Petroleum Minister Naveed Qamar. Talpur has also alleged that General Manager (GM) Human Resources Mureed Hussain Raheemo, an official of grade 18 deputed on GM seat, had conducted interviews of 400 candidates. Talpur also handed over a list of 400 ed candidates to the Prime Minister.BR
